Privacy Policy
Group Bluetooth Audio
Last updated: August 1, 2026
Introduction
This Privacy Policy describes how Group Bluetooth Audio ("we," "our," or "us") collects, uses, and protects your information when you use our macOS application and its optional iPhone companion app.
In short: we collect nothing. The app stores your settings on your own Mac and sends nothing to us or to anyone else. There is no advertising, no analytics and no tracking of any kind.
Information We Collect
Local Device Information
Group Bluetooth Audio stores the following information locally on your device:
- Device Preferences: Volume levels and mute states for each audio device
- Device Configurations: Which devices you've grouped together for multi-output
- App Settings: Your Pro subscription status, volume step preferences, and key mappings
- Master Volume: The overall volume level you've set
The app accesses but does not store:
- Audio Device Names: To display in the interface (not permanently stored)
- Bluetooth Device Status: To show connection state (not permanently stored)
Information We Do NOT Collect
We want to be clear about what we do not collect:
- Audio content or recordings
- Personal identification information
- Location data
- Browsing history or activity outside the app
- Network traffic or internet activity
- Files or documents on your computer
Advertising
There is none. Group Bluetooth Audio contains no advertising, no advertising SDK and no advertising identifiers, in either the free or Pro version. An ad-supported free tier was considered and abandoned before release; no version of the app has ever displayed an advertisement.
How We Use Information
The locally stored information is used exclusively for:
- Remembering your preferred volume levels for each device
- Restoring your device grouping configurations when you restart the app
- Saving your Pro subscription status and custom settings
- Maintaining your custom key mappings and preferences
Data Storage and Security
Local Storage Only
All app data is stored locally on your Mac using:
- SwiftData: For device volume levels, mute states, and grouping configurations
- UserDefaults: For Pro subscription status, volume step preferences, and custom key mappings
No Remote Transmission
Group Bluetooth Audio has no servers and transmits nothing to us. We could not see your data if we wanted to.
The app's only network activity is the local audio streaming described below, which stays on your own Wi-Fi network.
Streaming Audio to Your iPhone (Pro)
Pro includes the option to play your Mac's audio on an iPhone running the free Group Bluetooth Audio companion app. When you turn this on:
- Your Mac announces itself on your local network so the companion app can find it, using Apple's Bonjour service discovery.
- Your Mac captures the audio your speakers would have played and sends it directly to your iPhone over your Wi-Fi network.
This audio never leaves your local network. It travels straight from your Mac to your phone. It does not pass through us, it is not routed through any server, and it is never recorded or stored — audio is played as it arrives and then discarded.
Streaming only happens while you have the feature enabled and a phone connected. Turning it off in Settings stops the announcement and the streaming immediately.
The companion iPhone app collects nothing. It has no accounts, no analytics and no advertising. It keeps a local diagnostic log of audio performance — buffer timings and network statistics, never audio content — which stays on your phone unless you choose to share it with us for troubleshooting.
Permissions
The app requests the following macOS permissions:
- Bluetooth Access: To detect and manage Bluetooth audio devices
- Audio Input: To create multi-output audio configurations
- Apple Events: To control media playback (play/pause/next/previous)
- Screen Recording: Required by macOS to capture the system audio mix for streaming to your iPhone. Despite the name, the app captures audio only — it never captures, views or records your screen. macOS files system-audio capture under this permission and offers no narrower one.
- Local Network: To find your iPhone and send audio to it over your own Wi-Fi network.
These permissions are used solely for the app's core functionality and are not used to collect personal information.
In-App Purchases and Subscriptions
Group Bluetooth Audio offers optional Pro features through in-app purchases, including an auto-renewable monthly subscription. Purchase information is handled entirely by Apple through the App Store and is subject to Apple's Privacy Policy. We do not collect, store, or have access to your payment information.
For detailed subscription terms, please review our Terms of Use.
Children's Privacy
Group Bluetooth Audio does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. The app operates entirely locally and collects no personal information from anyone, of any age.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last updated" date. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
Third-Party Services
None. No advertising networks, no analytics providers, no crash reporters, no third-party SDKs of any kind are integrated into either app. The only outside party involved is Apple, which handles App Store purchases.
Your Rights
Since all app data is stored locally on your device, you have complete control over your information:
- Access: All your data is accessible through the app interface
- Modification: You can change or delete preferences at any time
- Deletion: Uninstalling the app removes all associated data
- Streaming: Turn iPhone streaming off at any time in Settings; your Mac stops announcing itself immediately
